What a birth chart is

A birth chart is a snapshot of the sky at the moment you were born: where the Sun, Moon and planets stood against the zodiac and the horizon of your birthplace. The zodiac sign from a horoscope is just the Sun's position, while the chart shows nine more planets, twelve houses and the ascendant.

What the interpretation tells you

The Sun describes your character and goals, the Moon your feelings and need for security, Venus the way you love, and the ascendant the first impression you make. Houses show which areas of life this plays out in: work, money, partnership, family. Aspects between planets explain inner contradictions and talents.

How the chart is calculated

We use astronomical ephemerides, the same planetary motion data observatories rely on. Your birth city is converted into coordinates and a time zone, historical daylight saving changes included, so planet and ascendant positions are accurate to a fraction of a degree.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, partly. The planets' signs will be exact, except the Moon in rare cases. The ascendant and houses can't be calculated without a time - they change every few minutes.
A horoscope is written for everyone of one sign at once. A birth chart is unique: it depends on your date, time and place of birth and is shared only by people born in the same place in the same minute.
The ascendant, or rising sign, is the zodiac sign rising over the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. It describes your outward manner, first impression and the way you start new things.
